As I explained in my last post, I am redesigning my Tarot game. The major arcana cards are titled with the traditional name below a new, modern title that I am choosing based upon my own experience in reading the cards.
Just how do you distill the meaning of the card down to one word? Some of the cards are easy, and others present more problems; there are so many wonderful words that could easily work, yet the title I choose must not constrain the card to a single meaning.
The Lovers Card is one such card, the image above shows UNION as the title, but I have not finalized my decision. I am searching for a single word that means equal but different. The image is a closeup of two birch trees that are so close that they are almost one tree. Let me know what you think; just put your choice in the comments section or email me . Thanks for your help!
Here are the title choices (replacing the top title in white modern font “UNION”) for this card:
- SYMMETRY
- THE DOUBLE
- INVOLUTION
- SYNTHESIS
- PARTNERSHIP
- UNITY
- COOPERATION
- MERGE
- UNION
- UNIFICATION
- SYNERGY
- SIMBIOSIS
- SIMILTUDE

I like Unity which for me implies bringing two separate things together that may be different but can act as one. Union is very similar.

Before I saw your card I thought of the number 11, so when I saw the card I thought – perfect!
The words that I had already played with are :
partnership: good but a bit too much associated with business
symbiosis: mutually beneficial but too biological
completion: feeling complete is a wonderful thing but this idea has been hijacked by the falsity that we need another to complete us whereas the first love affair should be with our self.
fulfillment: similar to completion
recognition: I rather like this one as it suggests seeing yourself in the other or recognising other aspects of your self.
dual: two in one. If we were not dual beings we would not be able to recognise duality in the world.
When I saw Union on the card it felt right because it still has the feeling of two separate entities. I love the symbolism of the two trees but would like to see the small but significant space between them blue rather than brown. Brown containing red suggests fixing the bond with clay whereas blue represents both water (sensitivity and feeling aspects) and air (space and movement) together this allows for keeping the two aspects alive in a bond of trust (also blue.
These suggestions are given only to give you the chance to know your own truth even clearer than before. I really like what you are doing with the Tarot, keeping it very much alive in this century.

Hi Louise and Julie,
I am tending towards SYNERGY as the title for this card. Here is the Free Dictionary definition for this word:
syn·er·gy (snr-j)
n. pl. syn·er·gies
1. The interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.
2. Cooperative interaction among groups, especially among the acquired subsidiaries or merged parts of a corporation, that creates an enhanced combined effect.
I like how the word’s definition covers more cases than just a twosome partnership or relationship. A more universal meaning…
I am working on the pip cards now, stay tuned to this blog.

How about more than one word? Difficult Choices.
